I enjoyed your pragmatic deconstruction of the poem, Dan. Quite accurate and entertaining. Yes, one of the biggest problems for both (all) genders is what I call the Disneyfication of the world. We all inhabit a dream of perfection that doesn't now, and never did, exist. I've suggested to the dreamers: "Think of the person you would like to marry, then become the person THAT person would want to marry." That gives a more constructive context and direction to the otherwise passive wish for the perfect person.

All romantic love is based on projection. But real love is what happens in the years after you "fall in love", and after you've discovered who the person really is, and who you become together.
